PrintThe Family Piano is the latest recording project to be realized by Trey Johnson.
Envisioned as an evolving creative collective — a song factory of sorts — this first volume of The Family Piano showcases the remarkable talents of a diverse group of working musicians in Dallas, Fort Worth and Denton. Each song finds Johnson mining the dynamic and mood of the song, directing various combinations of musicians and instrumentation to achieve just the right atmosphere.

Paul Williams assisted in production for The Family Piano. The album’s cover photo (and others you see on this site)  is from a collection of images captured by Rita Henry. She has been photographing family pianos over the last year. Trey Carmichael did the creative design and layout.

About Trey Johnson

In 2001, Johnson formed the band Sorta with Danny Balis. Sorta enjoyed regional and some national success with four full length recordings. Sorta songs could be heard in television series and indie films, most notably One Tree Hill and MTV Road Rules. Sorta was featured in Vogue magazine, and garnered several Dallas Observer Music Award nominations, winning Best Act of 2006. Sorta disbanded in 2007 following the tragic death of keyboardist Carter Albrecht.

TJIn recent years, Johnson released two solo records, Mount Pelee and Where the East Ends. He currently oversees licensing for TV and film for Brick Media Music and manages the Dallas Music Preservation Catalog.
